King Kirby and the U.S. Male

Cleveland, 1967-8

The U.S. Male was a short-lived Cleveland band (1967-68) featuring Ray Saporita of Gene Carroll Show fame on lead vocals and trumpet, Johnny Joe Gardina bass, Chris Kambouroff guitar, Ron Durback Hammond organ, and Danny Mazza drums.
Via Mazza's connection they were managed by WIXY's Lou 'King' Kirby, who garnered them two appearances in Los Angeles in Feb. 1968 on Dick Clark's Happening '68 TV show for a battle of the bands.  They gigged sporadically at mostly west-side clubs and also Higbee teen fashion shows.
The band broke up early 1968 after Durback and Mazza, along with Rick Papaleo on bass, were session musicians, billed as The Convention, for Saporita's July 1968 Buddah 45 release "Hey There Little Miss Mary" b/w "Story Of Our Love".  Saporita subsequently put together other musicians for a band named The Convention.

Story by Danny Mazza

There were no recordings by the band. Records credited to the U.S. Male on MGM, Special Delivert, Brittania, and United American Productions are different bands
