Tabz

Columbus, 1968-70

The Tabz were a teen band from Columbus. The original band included Steve Green (bass), Bob Bauer (guitar), Doug Bauer (drums), and Randy Hill (lead guitar)

The band played the usual circuit of teen dances, parties, etc. The band wasn't rolling in money so they played Hagstrom guitars. A live recording from at Cooke Recreation on March 8, 1968 has them doing a nice teen dance cover of the Standells' "Try It".

On Sept 21, 1969, the group went to Coronet to make their only studio recordings. They recorded two songs, "Lady Caroline" and "Looking Back".Randy was gone and the band now included Dave Harless (vocals), and Tom Callahan (guitar). Tom wrote the nice midtempo "Lady Caroline" while the more uptempo "Looking Back" was written by Steve, Bob, and Dave. They had a handful of acetates made for themselves and to give to friends. Both songs are nice additions to the Columbus 60s garage library. They have nice harmonies with clean mid 60s jangle and some later 60s sophistication.

The group also made some home recordings in 1970, before breaking up. Fortunately Steve Green has preserved the recordings and made them available on Youtube.
