the Pat Holben Trio
Toledo, 1963-late 1970s
This group played Toledo area bars for many years. The group was led by keyboard playet Pat Holben, with a guitarist and drummer.
The group recorded a couple 45s in Detroit for Fortune records. The first one has two electric piano dominated R&B instrumentals that were probably 'floor fillers' at their club gigs. The second one has an instrumental with the title "Keep On Trucking", a phrase that was popularized a year or so earlier by cartoonist Robert Crumb, but predating.the Eddie Kendricks mega hit with the same title. The other side, "My Mother Is A Funky Chicken" features a vocal. Pat is playing an organ and electric piano on these sides. Roy Wilson and Mike Whitmore are also mentioned in the credits.
Pat's name disappears from the Toledo paper in the late 1970s, for performing. He later became a well known car salesman in town. He passed away in 2023.
