Montereys

North Olmsted, 1964-6

The Montereys were formed by North Olmsted High School students to play local teen dances at high schools and YMCA's. The band included Alan Howarth (bass), Russ Koberna (keyboards), Arnold Burghardt (vocals, rhythm guitar), Dave Smith (lead guitar), Joe Steg (drums). This band recorded a couple songs at Cleveland Recording, the vocal "Shake It" and the instrumental "Positraction", which were dubbed into a few acetates. Burghardt, who wrote the two songs was replaced by Tom Jeffries who was a stronger front man. The band lasted until late '65 or early '66 whan Howarth joined the Tree Stumps and Koberna joined Kicks, Inc. Burghardt joined the Boss Breed and also wrote ensemble music that was peformed by the high school band and choir.
