Escos

Cincinnati, 1959-63

The Escos were a Cincinnati R&B vocal group. The group was started by Lonnie Carter and Winfred Gerald, who quit the Charms. A couple different lineups were given for the group. One has George Carter and Wilbert Bell, a different lineup - possibly later - has other former Charms members Donald Peak, Richard Parker, Joe Penn, and Ronald Bradley as members.

THe group's first 45 was on the Esta label from Hamilton, with the four members in the first lineup given above. They were backed by the Swingin' Rocks band (who had a 45 on Esta that was probably issued at the same time). The group was signed up by King, possibly to compensate for losting Otis Williams to military service.

The Escos had 4 45s on Federal. None of them were national hits.

That's all we have for now...
