the Cut Outs / Crosswinds

Dayton, early 1960s

The Cut Outs were from the Dayton area. They made a 45 of two instrumentals in 1963. The A side is a fast song with a lot of organ, and a short guitar break.

According to a post from his grandson, Gary (or Garry) Sullins was the guitarist and drummer on the record. Phil Mehaffey was the keyboard player. There is also an electric bass on the record.

Around the same time, Sullins and Mehaffey were listed as members of the Crosswinds. The other members were Jim Marrow and Lonnie Anderkin. Lonnie was the singer. The band name may have been changed when Lonnie joined the band.

There were no mention of the Cut-Outs in the Dayton paper. The Crosswinds were mentioned a few times in 1963/4 and once in 1967.  The V.A.C. label was run by Jimmy Crain.
