Cania

Canton, early 1970s - early 1980s

pic

Cania were a pretty active band in the Canton area from the mid 1970s until the early 1980s.

The band membership, from reading newspaper stories, changed a lot. The members in August, 1977 were Willie Owens (bass), Charles Brown (drums), Gary McDow (guitar), and Mark Harris (guitar).

The July 1979 lineup was listed as Glen "Uncle Funk" Hora (keyboards), Ray McDonald (bass), Al Garner (guitar), John Randall (congas), and Jeff Singleterry (drums). This lineup recorded the song "Visions" as described in the article above from July 1979.

From reading the newspaper accounts, the group was a self contained band with different singers. On the recording the singers were Johnny Mitchell, Junebug Harris, Carl Isles, and Joyce Isles.

We don't have much info beyond this. In 1991, a story about a group called the Skool Boyz, a boy band of brothers led by their father Travis Carter, had the following comments. We've never seen the record mentioned, possibly there was a different artist credited. Carter was definitely in Newfonious Uprise. from the late 1970s.
