L-R: Eric Loy, Tim Shoemaker, Dave Marsh, Carl Couch

TAILWIND was a progressive rock quartet of bass, drums, guitar and vocalist active during 1977-1978 in the Dayton, Ohio area.  Drummer Tim Shoemaker (from the stentorian power trio Underband) and bassist Carl Couch (of Indiana group, Crossfire) invited guitarist Eric Loy to form the group.  Shortly thereafter, vocalist Dave Marsh of Richmond, Indiana appeared as lead vocalist.

Tailwind’s repertoire was comprised of material by Jeff Beck, Led Zeppelin, The Who, etc. as well as lots of original material composed by guitarist Loy and bassist Couch and vocalist Marsh. Tailwind played the Dayton, Ohio area and recorded two self-produced 45’s of original material:  “Shake In The Wind” / Changing Directions” and “Still Air” / “Pristine”.  Tailwind opened for Wild Cherry.

Drummer Tim Shoemaker and guitarist Eric Loy went on in the 1990’s with the instrumental fusion jazz/rock trio Hipperoos, recording several CD albums of original material and playing live gigs.  The Hipperoos lineup continued with Shoemaker and Loy as constants, while Sol Smith (of Underband), Jim Hilt and Scott Reed (deceased in 2012) rotated the bass guitar position.  Hipperoos albums and Tailwind 45’s are still available at www.EricLoy.Com.
