the Storms

Toledo, late 1950s

pic

One of the first local rock-n-roll bands, the Storms were started by local high school students. Carl Groves was the leader and bass player, with John Rank on keyboards, Sammy Kern on guitar, Kay Yeager on sax, and John .Eickel on drums. John Rank was a student at Scott High School.

The band recorded a great  rockin' 45 for the Musicale label. "Canteen Baby" is loose and frantic, a 'garage rock' record before its time!

The band seemed to last for a couple years, and several members went into Johnny and the Thunderbirds. We don't know if they just changed the name or started over.

There is no connection between these Storms and the Raging Storms.
