The Soul Impromptu were technically a jazz band, but like many bands of young adults at the time, included comtemporary 'pop' music in their repetroire. They are included on Buckeye Beat for their 45 on Prism which features two soul.R&B covers.
The band was made up of Ohio University students. The members, based on the posted article, were Gerry Harpole (piano), Bill Woodcock (drums), Morris Fertig (bass), Ron Kornhauser (sax), and Jim McGaw (trumpet).
The 45 recorded has instrumental recordings of "Something You Got", originally by Chris Kenner, and "Ain't That Peculiar", originally by Marvin Gaye.
Jim McGaw later surfaced as a member of the New Vinton County Frogwompers, playing stringed instruments.
