the Rondells

Phoenix, AZ- Columbus, 1964-1966

The Rondells originated as members of the US Air Force, located on Davis-Mothan AFB in Phoenix, AZ. The band included Thomas LIndsey as lead singer, Michael Bradley on rhythm guitar, Herb Shingler on drums, and two brothers who were not in service, Chuck Nole on bass and Tim Nole on guitar. According to the story posted above, they would have started around January 1964. The band played on base and local teen dances.

The Nole family was well travelled and sometime later in 1964 they moved to Columbus, OH. Tim and Chuck restarted the band, although it's not known who else was in the band, it's believed at least one of the Air Force members relocated to Lockbourne AFB in Columbus. Once in Columbus they joined the active local teen dance scene, competing in battle of the bands with the Rebounds and Dantes among others. They also had gigs at Lockbourne.

In January 1965 they recorded their lone 45 at Magnetic and had it released on Fabar. The A side is cover of the Everly Brothers, while the B-side, a a good moody Mersey style garage sound, was written by Tim Nole.

The band disappears from the local scene by early 1966. Most likely due to Chuck Nole joining the Army.

In later years Chuck was a member of the Army for many years. Both of them lived in the Pacific NW, apparently the family had roots there also. Tim and Chuck are deceased.
