the Regents
Ohio? 1964
King records did custom pressing for 1000s of one-shot recordings from the late 1950s until 1971-ish. The Cincinnati location means that any unknown record with no immediate location data can be placed from SW Ohio.
The Regents were a band from somewhere who recorded a 'teen rocker' treatment of Summertime - predating the Zombies recording that created a blueprint for many mid-late 1960s covers. They were probably more inspired by the Rick Nelson version a couple years earlier. The flip side of their 45 was an instrumental "Cape Fear", borrowing the name of legendary movie from 1962.
The Regents were one of those common band names for their time. The record was a custom press by King on the Prix label. The producer was J. Choate, and the songwriter for "Cape Fear" is T. Foley. The record also credits "Group One Artists", making the record seem like it's from some established production company.
Searching the newspapers and trade magazines produced nothing. Without first names, the trail is cold.
