After the Edgewood 5 disbanded, Larry Smith and Phil Shasteen found some new members for a new band, the New Breed. The New Breed took after many other area bands in playing mostly soul and R&B music.

We were told the band recorded a 45, one side being the oft-covereed "Harlem Shuffle". No copies of this record have ever come our way, however, We also heard that they recorded an LP, but that was almost certainly just a demo tape.
