the Mystics

Cincinnati, 1964-1974

The Mystics, Cincinnati version, were a vocal group that ranged from 3-5 members. The members were brothers Gerald Brown and Terry Brown, with Robert Banks.

The group started around 1964 with Robert Banks and lasted for 10 years. In 1968 the lineup was Banks. The Brown brothers were in the group for the last 5-6 years.

In 1973 the group was one of several Cincinnati artists who formed Black Cultural Productions. The BCP was the artistic branch of the Black Coalition, a group of Cincinnatians who were pushing for more African-American representation in mainstream media. Among their projects were community based and produced TV shows.

The Mystics recorded a 45 for the Olympic label. It's possible that Olympic was part of the BCP.The songs and production were credited to Bill Lane.

In 1975 the Brown brothers were recruited by the Soul Train TV show to be part of the house group. the Soul Train Gang.
