the Montours

New Castle, PA, 1967-8

pic

The Montours were part of the greater Youngstown 'blue eyed soul' or 'greaser soul' bands that were popular in the area.

The band recorded a 45 at WAM/United Audio that seems the first record, chronologically, to use the United Audio house label. The songs have the local soul sound that was big in the area clubs.

There is not a lot of detail about the band, but from the above story on the Graduates and other bits, the band included Gary Hill (guitar), Bob Selby (vocals), Jerry Ferilla (organ), Fred Sprano, and one other member. The four named were from New Castle.

By the fall of 1968, the band had migrated to the Graduates. Bill Selby was listed as their singer then but not in the article above.

It's possible they are connected another band called the In Crowd. Around 2015 some acetares by the In Crowd recorded at WAM were auctioned on ebay. We are still investigating that thread.
