the Melvettes

Cincinnati, early 1960s

pic

Artilce from Middletown, OH, October 1963

The Melvettes recorded one 45 for the Tela-Star label, a subsidiary of Ark records that was intended for R&B and rock artists. There is nothing much known about the group, other than they were from Cincinnati, as mentioned in the posted article.

The group sounds all female, probably teenagers. There are no given names for the writers. The producer was Curtis Freeman. There was a Curtis Freeman in Cincinnati who was involved in the late 1960s civil rights movement, likely the same guy but not proven

The 45 was popular in Pittsburgh, and sometime in the late 1960s, it was bootlegged in the 'Burgh.
