Maw Brown / Maw

Cleveland, 1973-4

Maw Brown were pretty active in 1973-4 playing Cleveland clubs like the Spectrum and Cyrus Erie West. The band got their name from two brothers, Jeff (guitar) and Barry (bass) Brown. The original band included David Streater (organ), Bob Tome (lead guitar) and Jim Grey (drums). Later, Steve McConnell was the drummer.

According to accounts, they played straight ahead rock, with Streater's organ having a prominent part in their sound.

In the summer of 1974 they were supposed to have move to Erie, PA and then returned to Cleveland. The Brown brothers left, and the band was renamed Maw with new members Bob Seaman (bass), Mike Goodman (keyboards, flute, sax) and a female singer. That version doesn't seem to have lasted long.
