the Mar-kals
Hubbard, 1958-70
The Mar-kals were a family band, including 2 sisters and a brother. The family name was Marrokal and the members were Tom on guitar and vocals, Eileen on drums, and Patty on accordion and vocals.
According to a 1967 promo card, the trio had been playing for 9 years and appeared on the Ted Mack show in 1960.
Taken at face value, they don't seem like a rock band, but their 1967 45 on Marjon proves that assumption dead wrong! The 45 has a solid teen garage vibe with a Kinks/Raiders guitar riff and solo, with the accordion approximating a combo organ rhythm line. They sound tight and well rehearsed.
The group also recorded some demos that are more pop than teen garage.
