Johnny and the Thunderbirds / the Trends
Columbus, 1959
The Clover/Cloverleaf label from Columbus had three records, the first two with the Clover name. The two records were credited to Johnny and the Thunderbirds and the Trends.
These records were likely recorded at the same time with the same personnel. The Thunderbirds record credits the Trends on vocals while the Trends record credits the Thunderbirds as the band.
Both songs on the Clovers record and "They Say" by the Thunderbirds were written by Dick Scher and Joe Benedetti. Dick and Joe seemed to be the owners of the label and meant to showcase their songwriting.
The Trends record was re-released on the Argo label, part of the Chess records operation.
We don't have any information about the members of either group. They may have been studio only, intended to market the Scher/Benedetti compositions.
Johnny and the Thunderbirds from Toledo are a different band. There are also other Trends groups that are not related to the group listed here.
