Hal Hedges and the Dreamers / Chubby Chops and Twisting Cyclones

Toledo, early 1960s

Harold "Hal" Hedges had been a member of Freddie and the Parliaments.  Around 1961 he was peforming on his own using the name Chubby Chops. Chubby/Hal out together his own backing band that included Bill Stewart on guitar. The group played the Carousel Club in Toledo. The group recorded one 45 on the Jerrlen label from Toledo.

The group continued to play around the area. Jerry Pynckel, formerly with Johnny and the Hurricanes, joined on guitar. This group recorded a second 45 under the name of Hal Hedges and the Dreamers. Hal and the group did an update on the standard "Pennies From Heaven", first released on Toledo's Showcase label. It got enough action for ABC to release the 45 nationally, but it never took off beyond a regional hit.

There doesn't seem to be many details about Hal's life after that.
