Elements / Moving Violation / Sonlight

Cleveland, 1967-77

The Elements were barely teenagers when they formed as junior high students at Patrick Henry Junior HS. The group was lead by Mark Anthony, with Ulysses Barnes, Enos Scott, and Ronald Sims. Mark Anthony sang primary lead and wrote many of their songs with other the other group members. They recorded their 1st 45 for Del-Nita in 1970. Shortly after they were signed up by Saru records and recorded three 45s on the label.

In 1974 they released a 45 on Atlantic that got some airplay, a nice uptempo groove called "Spinning Top". They had changed their name to the Moving Violation.

Sometime later, a further name change to Sonlight occured and they recorded one more 45 for the short lived Spearhead label. The songs were published by Lou Ragland's publishing company.
