the Contours

Cincinnati, 1958-1960

pic

December 1958. Spatz Show Bar was in Hamilton.

Before Detroit's Contours helped launch Motown records with hits like "Do You Love Me", there were the Contours from Cincinnati (or Hamilton?).

There doesn't seem to be any info on them. The only clue about their existence is the 1958 ad posted above. The Detroit Contours did not exist in 1958 so the group listed is almost certainly the local one.

They recorded one 45 on Finch. There are no names or credits on the record. "The Mission", is a great vocal group sound. The record is one of the rarest Ohio 45s in the genre and outside of a few copies from John Finch's estate, is almost never found in the wild nor seen for sale.
