 Clarence Arnold

Cleveland, 1959-1963

Clarence Arnold was an obscure R&B singer who recorded one 45 in 1961. He was a featured performer at the Blackstone Cafe during 1959 and 1960, and the Mayflower Lounge in 1962, but disappears from the club scene after early 1963.

The only other info we could find on him was one appearance the One O'Clock Club TV show in March, 1961, probably when the 45 was released.

Clarence is described as a baritone and a balladeer. He held down one part of a variety show with several acts, which was the norm for R&B clubs of the times. Among the acts he shared a bill were the Five Quails and a very young Kim Tolliver.

On the 45 he is credited with the Four Jacks, a band from Cleveland. There is no mention of the Four Jacks in Clarence's club shows so they were likely used for the session and not otherwise connected. The band had their own local club gigs.
