Alexander and the Bandsmen

Cleveland, 1957-9?

pic

Alexander and the Bandsmen sound like another band of older than teenage musicians who were trying to keep up with the latest sounds. There were ads for them playing at the Golden Goose and the Marotta Bar (in Cleveland's Slavic Village) in the Cleveland papers but that's about all we know.

Their only 45, to the best of our knowledge, was recorded at Audio Recording in 1959 and credited to band members Alexander, Lee, and Spencer. No copyrights were made, but the ad suggests Al Alexander as a name. The A side Spider is an OK instrumental. The B side aims at the rock-n-roll audience but it barely makes the line as a rock-n-roll record. Eddie Lee is the credited vocalist.

There are no other mentions of Al Alexander, likely a stage name, we could find. Eddie Lee, probably a stage name as well,  was playing in Elyria in 1962
