the Acorn Sisters

Cincinnati, late 1950s - 1970s

The Acorn Sisters started as three girls,, Rosemarie, Evelyn, and Goldie. Were they really sisters or related? We're not sure. The real names were Goldie Brown, Evelyn Bowen, and possibly Rosemarie Knight. According to all the ads and info from the time, they were from Cincinnati, but a couple online sources state they were from Kentucky.

The girls were teenagers when they started. They were the main act for the Acorn label from Cincinnati, who gave them their name.

The group recorded several 45s for Acorn. Their first 45 "Real Gone" is an excellent rockabilly 45, their most rockin' recording. Their later records are country and gospel. Label owner Joe Grieshop wrote many of the original songs.

By 1967 the group was a duo of Evelyn and Goldie. They performed locally, and did background vocals on a few local recordings.

Rosemarie had a solo 45 in the mid 1960s.
