Cleveland, 1965-8
The Ambassadors were a soul vocal group from Cleveland. The leader was Donald Rice. They recorded a 45 for Capitol Records’ Uptown soul subsidiary label – more Cleveland talent on Capitol records.
The group recorded a second 45 for the DeBrossard label. As with the Uptown 45, both songs were group compositions. These sides were recorded locally, probably at Audio. “Do You Ever Think About Me” is a frantic uptempo number, while “I Love You” is a ballad.
After the group split, Donald Rice joined the Intertains, who had of course also recorded for Uptown.
There were numerous groups named the Ambassadors. The soul groups on the PeeVee and Arctic labels, as well as any other Ambassors records other than the two listed, are not related.
